DAV College’s NSS Unit Hosts Cyber Crime Awareness Drive to Empower Digital Citizens

In a significant step toward promoting digital safety, the NSS Unit of DAV College, in collaboration with Amar Ujala, organized a Cyber Crime Awareness Drive at the DAV College, Chandigarh on February 9, 2026.

The programme was graced by Hon’ble Shri A. V. Venkatesh, DSP Cyber Crime, as the Chief Guest, along with Sh. Karan Soni , cyber crime expert whose enlightening address served as the focal point of the event. He sensitized students and faculty to the growing challenges of cyber crime in today’s digitally driven world, highlighting issues such as online fraud, identity theft, phishing, data breaches, and digital exploitation. Emphasizing that cyber crime is no longer a distant technical issue but a pressing social reality, he urged students to adopt vigilance, ethical conduct, and informed decision-making in their digital lives.
The event witnessed the esteemed presence of Mrs. Veena Tiwari ji, Senior Chief Reporter Amar Ujala ; and senior journalists Ms. Monika Naagar ji and Shri Sandeep Khattri, crime reporter, whose participation strengthened the vital link between educational institutions and the media in spreading social awareness.

Addressing the gathering, the Principal of DAV College, Dr. Mona Narang, underscored the role of educational institutions in shaping responsible digital citizens. She stated that education must extend beyond academic instruction and equip students with the knowledge, values, and awareness required to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. She reiterated that awareness remains the most effective means of preventing cyber crime.
The programme aimed to sensitize students to safe online practices, ethical digital behaviour, and the legal implications of cyber offences. The initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the National Service Scheme (NSS) to promote social responsibility, community engagement, and informed citizenship.
The event was successfully coordinated by the NSS Programme Officers Dr. Manminder Singh Anand, Dr. Raghav Khanna, Dr. Yogyata, and Dr. Kashma, along with the dedicated efforts of NSS volunteers from all four units, whose discipline and commitment ensured the smooth conduct of the programme.
The programme concluded with a strong message urging students to remain alert, informed, and responsible digital citizens, reinforcing the idea that awareness is the first line of defence in the digital age.
